Warsaw's symbols

   1. City colours.

City of Warsaw colours are yellow and red in two horizontal stripes on a flag (yellow at the top, red at the bottom). Yellow is a colour of the Sun, a symbol of light, prosperity, nobleness, honesty and spiritual grandness. Red symbolises courage and blood lost in the fight for freedom.

   2. Coat of arms.

The Statue of the Mermaid was an official coat of arms from 1938 until World War II. It again became officially approved by the City of Warsaw Council`s decree of 15 August 1990 on reactivating pre-war tradition.
